Wimbledon Live delivers perfect experience for the community

26th July 2018
Over 6400 visitors came to watch Wimbledon Live on the big screen in the High Street.

The event organised by Croydon BID, was the first of its kind in the High Street to feature a big screen, and organised as part of the Street Live event programme running throughout the summer.

The big screen was located in the pedestrianised area of the High Street, showing live Wimbledon coverage from Monday 2nd July - Sunday 15th July, when the Wimbledon doors were closed for another year.

The High Street saw an overall 3.6% increase in footfall across the two week period.

With strawberries and cream on demand and a refreshing glass of Pimms in hand, it was almost as good as being at the Centre Court itself. There were deck chairs and bean bags available to view the screen in absolute comfort and while away the summer sunshine.

Matthew Sims, chief executive of Croydon BID said: “It was great to see the High Street full of hustle and bustle with tennis fans of all ages and those who just wanted a place to meet with friends. Our Street Live program continues to deliver an exciting range of events to encourage more visitors to the high street.”

The Street Live programme features 48 days of music, dance, theatre, exercise, food and games. For more information about the Street Live programme visit www.checkoutcroydon.com

Wimbledon Live was sponsored by Croydon Council and Fairfield Halls.
