Centrale & Whitgift Launch Musical Trail for Croydon Artists
Centrale & Whitgift Shopping Centres and the Croydon Partnership have launched the trail with the aim of celebrating talent in the community whilst enlivening space in the centres.
The theme for the trail is “Croydon Music City” which aims to capture the rich history, diversity and creativity Croydon has in relation to music and musical talent. As part of the music theme, artists will be asked to list three tracks that inspired them to create their piece. All tracks in the trail will be added to a music playlist, which will be accessible to all visitors via QR codes placed alongside the pieces.
A call for submissions has launched today with eight locations available for artists to choose from. Artists can submit examples of their previous work and proposals online via the Centrale & Whitgift website. Deadline for entry is 5pm on Tuesday 22nd December after which, a group of panelists will review all entries. The panel will be looking for artwork that responds to key genres and creators of Croydon’s musical heritage. Submissions should be creative, unique, inclusive, uplifting and appeal to all ages. All expressions of interest will be contacted by 31st January and the winning entries will see their work installed across the sites in February 2021.
Speaking about the importance of the trail, Centrale & Whitgift’s Community Manager James Rogers said, “We are delighted to launch the Centrale & Whitgift Art Trail celebrating the boroughs musical history, past and present. Croydon is full of artistic talent and in these difficult times we wanted to create something positive for the community to work together on. We look forward to reviewing the expressions of interest and working with the selected local artists”
