Croydon FM Gains an Official FM Radio Licence from Ofcom

Croydon FM has gained an elusive FM radio licence from the U.K. communications regulator Ofcom.

This means that after almost two years as an Internet only radio station, it is one of only six community radio stations to gain FM status. Moreover, in a recent update, Ofcom declared "This will be the last round of community radio licensing on FM or AM for the foreseeable future."

Social Entrepreneur and Croydon resident Clive Campbell began Croydon FM CIC as a Community-led online Radio service for the culturally and ethnically diverse community of Croydon and surrounding areas to provide a platform for local music talent as well as taking part in community outreach and fundraising.

Clive said:
“We are pleased with Ofcom’s decision and look forward to expanding our Radio service to the FM waveband. Croydon FM CIC offers listeners a range of daily shows consisting of music and discussions such as mental health, crime, life aspirations and personal development.”

Conducted by voluntary members, the live shows offer an opportunity for local people to get involved in an industry that is often hard to access, as well as gaining skills and confidence in DJ’ing, Radio production and other creative media. In addition, as a former Recording Artist, Clive understood the importance of championing local talent by providing an outlet for their material to be heard. As well as the live shows, Croydon FM extends its training services in the effort to engage local, young people through a series of Radio Production workshops, which are known as The Youth Project.

Since securing a long-term premises in St George's Walk (you may have seen the ‘Love CRO’ street art?) and launching live shows in June 2018, Croydon FM has recorded over 1000 live shows and has over 40 members within its community group. Croydon FM's impact within the community also earned it the 'Business in the Community' accolade at the Mayor of Croydon Civic Awards 2018.

Croydon FM is always open for applications from new local talent, including a range of roles: Writers, Producers, Presenters and Social Media Managers.
They are also seeking donations to get onto the FM dial, please contact Clive if you can help: contact@croydonfm.com
