Street Live Staycation brings four weekends of fun for the whole family
Street Live Staycation brought a feast of live entertainment to the town centre, with live music, crazy golf – and even dinosaurs – wowing crowds come rain or shine.
Starting with Festival Feels at the end of July, Croydon BID got those in the town centre in the festival spirit, with local acts providing the sounds for the summer, selfies in a campervan photobooth, street performers and fun games for youngsters.
Then on 7th August the town centre was taken back to prehistoric times, with families meeting dinosaurs millions of years after they last roamed the earth. A roarsome day of activities included fossil exploring and meeting Baxter T Rex and the Dino babies in North End – something not seen for a very, very, long time!
Croydon BID also engaged those inspired by watching our extraordinary England football team and heroics of the Team GB Olympics squad with a day of sports madness. There was crazy golf, table football and a climbing wall for families to compete on, and for those not looking to break a sweat, a team of BMX riders impressed audiences as they gazed in amazement at the jaw-dropping, gravity-defying, stunts.
Not wanting to stop there, Croydon BID brought the seaside (without the sand getting everywhere) and summer vibes to the town centre. With family shows, giant deck chairs, live music, entertainment and fairground stall games all complimenting the much-anticipated return of the helter skelter, there was something for everyone – no matter your age.
While a lot of the activities were free, some required a donation to charity – Crisis – and Croydon’s generosity was in bundles over the past four weeks, raising more than £1,000 to go towards helping homelessness.
Matthew Sims, Croydon BID Chief Executive, said: “To see the smiles, laughter and energy created by not just the performers but the people watching and taking part was simply the greatest feeling. We still face a long road of challenges but the success of Street Live and the reaction of all those attending our events has given me such great hope for the future.
"I am particularly proud of the generosity shown by those donating towards Crisis through our very popular Helter Skelter and in doing so supporting an extremely important cause.”
